Lela Bloodworth

(May 23, 1928 – July 4, 2011)

 

Mrs. Lela Ruth Allen Bloodworth, 83, of South Fulton, died on Monday, July 4, 2011, at the Obion County Nursing Home in Union City, TN. 

 

She was born in Obion County, TN, on May 23, 1928, the daughter of Luther Allen and Bethel (Boulton) Allen.

 

Mrs. Bloodworth was a graduate of South Fulton High School and later attended the University of Tennessee at Martin.  She worked for Henry I. Siegel, drove a bus for South Fulton schools, and was a longtime rural letter carrier in Fulton, KY.

 

She married Harry Bloodworth in 1949.  They were married 54 years until his death in 2003.

 

She is survived by 4 children, David Bloodworth (Holly) of Murray, KY, Vicki Swift of Fulton, KY, Susan Swearingen (Don) of Fulton, KY, and Stuart Bloodworth (Amy) of Tullahoma, TN.

 

Her 6 grandchildren are Tony Bloodworth, Los Angeles, CA; Jason Swift (Emily), Jackson, MO; Jeremy Swift (Rachel), Water Valley, KY; Justin Swift, Water Valley, KY; Jonathan Bloodworth, Tullahoma, TN; and Alexandra Bloodworth, Murray, KY.  Great-grandchildren are Madison and Matthew Swift of Jackson, MO, and Emma, Micah, and Ellie Swift of Water Valley, KY.

 

She had 5 siblings, 3 of whom preceded her in death: Henry Allen, Miami, FL; Alice Austin, Paducah, KY; and Louis Allen, Sierra Vista, AZ.  She is survived by a brother, James Allen of Mechanicsville, MD, and a sister, Virginia Lee of Mount Vernon, IL.

 

A private family service will be held.  A public visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011, at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
