The Cooper-Clayton method to stop smoking is a 13–week program that provides weekly education sessions in a supportive environment. The program encourages the use of nicotine replacement therapy and will be held every Tuesday for 13 consecutive weeks.
Get Moving Fulton County
Are you, your friends or coworkers looking to get active, lose a few pounds or make some new goals? Do you need a supportive environment to help you with lifestyle changes? Are you motivated by competition? Do you need help with your New Year’s resolutions? Would you just like to embrace a healthier life style? If you answered yes, then you need to sign up for Get Moving Fulton County provided by Fulton County Cooperative Extension Service. This program will allow individuals and/ or teams to choose a supportive or competitive track or both! The Competitive track will be the Biggest Loser type competition with *new* physical activity tracking, optional weekly weigh in and virtual challenges. A point system will be used to determine weekly and overall winners. The Supportive track will include bi-weekly meetings (Mondays at 6:00) with optional weigh in, including opportunities for education, physical activity and recipe tasting. Get Moving will begin on February 13 and last for 12 weeks ending April 30th. Informational Meetings will be held on February 6 at 6:00 at the Fulton County Extension Office and February 9th at 6:00 at Fulton First Baptist. Preregistration is required by February 10. Social Media Class for Adults at WKCTC
Paducah,
Kentucky (January 19, 2012) –Learn how to use Facebook to connect with
family and friends in a social media class at West Kentucky Community
and Technical College on February 7.
This class is designed for adults who want to learn the basics of Facebook including:
• creating a profile.
· adding photos.
· making status updates.
· understanding the meaning of “like” and more.
Class
instructor Blair Travis said Facebook is one of the most popular social
networking sites in the world with millions of users; and she “wanted
to offer adults in our area the opportunity to learn how to communicate
with their family, neighbors, co-workers and long lost friends.”
The
class will be held in the Emerging Technology Center, room 112 on
February 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost of the three-hour class is $10.
Those
attending should have a basic working knowledge of computers and must
have a personal e-mail account before attending the class.
Paducah,
Kentucky (January 12, 2012) – The A’ La Carte Series at West Kentucky
Community and Technical College (WKCTC) will offer four classes for
anyone interested in learning the art of Southern cooking.
Pam
Dickerson, Paducah’s own version of Paula Deen, will be the instructor
for the Kitchen Kousins series. The classes will be held on four
consecutive Tuesday nights beginning February 7. The classes will be
held from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in WKCTC’s new Marine Technology program
kitchen located in the Anderson Technical Building, room 159.
Kitchen Kousins participants will learn to create delicious recipes, Southern style. Course dates and menus are as follows: Picnic in the House – February 7 Potato Salad, Meatloaf Mounds, Pasta Salad Supreme and Coconut Thins
Pick of the Pantry – February 14 Veggall Casserole, Braised Chicken Thighs, Screamin’ Green Beans and Baked Brownie Pudding Soul Food – February 21 Greens, Sweet Potato Mash, Catfish, Mammie’s Biscuits, and Pecan Pie with Cream Cheese Crust
Deep South – February 28 Cajun Red Beans ‘n Rice, Easy Yeast Rolls and Golden Butter Cake with Strawberries
The
cost is $45 per session, which includes all ingredients. Participants
who sign up for all four sessions will receive a 10 percent discount.
PADUCAH,
KY (January 18, 2012) – Three of the top bass fishing anglers will
present Bass Weekend at West Kentucky Community and Technical College on
February 11-12.
Joe Thomas, author and host on "Ultimate Match
Fishing" and "Reel in the Outdoors" on the Outdoor Channel; Bernie
Schultz, eight-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier and Paducah native and
three-time Bassmaster champion, Mark Menendez, will each teach a class
on the basics of bass fishing, plus share some of their best tips for
catching the most fish.
Some of the topics that will be covered will be:
Ø Jerkbaits A-Z and Flippin' and Pitchin' Shallow Water.
Ø Cover Boat Positioning and Creating Proper Casting.
Ø Angles and Topwater Tactics A-Z. The
classes will be held in the conference room of the Emerging Technology
Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Classes will be
approximately 50 minutes in length and panel discussions will also be
included throughout the weekend.
The cost for the weekend is
$199. However, currently enrolled college or high school students get a
$20 discount. Students must present current student identification.
Participants can visit several bass fishing vendors throughout the weekend.

Honor Scholarship program announced
The Trustees of the Honor Scholarships would like to announce that the annual Honor Scholarship program will be held on February 12. This year’s program will be at the United Church of the Living God in Fulton, KY at 3:00 p.m.
The youth of the area churches will perform songs, dances, readings, and skits. The message will be delivered by Rev. Claudette Snorton, Pastor of Bells Chapel C.M.E. Church.
